If I were to hold a contest...

I've been toying with the idea of a contest recently. But I have no money for prizes, and few ideas for a theme. Unlike the usual contests held by stockers in the DA community, I don't think it would be so much a 'use my stock!' contest as an all-around art contest with a central theme. You know, the sort of thing that lets a person flex their creative wings. Maybe a quote, or a color, or an idea... Maybe a reinterpretation of the concept in Reaching.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Offers to help with prizes or advertise?

Recently it was brought to my attention that a publishing company in Greece has used a photomanipulation including Reaching on the cover of one of their books. I was not notified of this use, I never gave my permission, and my image was not credited. I won't go into further specifics than that- I'm floundering a little on how to take legal action, but if you're interested in helping, feel free to send a note to my main account, Nova-FoV.
I'm quite liberal with my images. I have never asked to be compensated, and for the most part, I don't care what people use them for. Now, by all means, I DO want to be credited and I would like to see what my pictures are being used for, especially the ones of my face- let me tell you, it's been weird the past year or so as I've started to see myself in pictures across DA and the internet that I never even knew existed. Weird, but it's really neat, too. I enjoy providing stock.
However, Reaching is a special case. It is a very personal picture for me, one that I hold close to my heart. I'm delighted by the fact that so many people around the world have found the same joy in this picture that I have, and it's great being able to see so many varied interpretations of the same picture. However, I know that in the future there will be circumstances similar to this one with the publishing company in Greece. There WILL be infringement, and I'm just counting the minutes to the time that I find out someone else has stolen the picture and is selling it as their own work for profit.
So, in light of its massive popularity and the prolific way in which it has spread across the web, I have filed a U.S. Copyright on Reaching.
This shouldn't scare anyone too much. If you use my picture appropriately- credit me when possible and obtain permission (which I almost ALWAYS give) for commercial use- you have nothing to worry about. I'm not going to come after you with a hatche because of a copyright violation if you pay attention to these simple rules. Like I said, I enjoy seeing the many uses my pictures are put to. However, I will not tolerate anyone taking credit for my intellectual property. If you use Reaching commercially without permission and without credit, I will take legal action.
Savvy? Good.
Now, moving onto other news, as if this journal isn't already long enough. I'm heading off to college soon. That means lots of good things for me- I'll be pursuing a degree as an art major, probably in the field of illustration or graphic design. That will be happening at the end of August. That means as far as I know, I won't be taking many pictures for a few years, and my studio is going bye-bye (*snif*). Consider yourself warned. But once again, don't worry. I have no intention of taking down my stock account.
And finally, I've got some new stock for you guys. I realize that this past year I haven't been terribly involved with the stock or photomanipulation communities. This is because I've been consumed by my AP Art class, where I've been forced to use personal references for everything, and my concentration has been in the field of digital painting rather than digital editing. But I started to miss photography a couple weeks ago and I had some free time, so I set up the studio and did some shooting. I hope that you enjoy.
I'll also be submitting some hard lit poses against a black backdrop. With the navy blue yoga pants and sequin trimmed tank-top, it's not exactly the ideal costume for photomanipulations. But these are personal references I took for painting purposes, since I've been wanting to really drive my ability to draw anatomically correct, as well as my understanding of the complex interaction of shadows and highlights on the skin. If you can use them, be my guest. They're probably the scariest pictures of myself I've ever submitted as stock.

Wow, it's been ridiculously long since I said anything. Biggest news affecting the account:
1. I'm in AP art, so my resource shooting style has changed a little to fit what I need for personal references.
2. I'm eighteen now. Doesn't mean I'm gonna start showing more skin, just means I've had this account FOREVER. (84,000 pageviews??? When did THAT happen?) And I can start selling prints.
3. I have a complete studio now, with backdrops + lighting equipment. Also, saving up for a new shiny D5000. Or D90, depending on my patience level.
4. I've applied to be an exchange student for an entire year in Germany. So. If I get to, the studio and props and costumes will go bye-bye, and I'll probably convert to background stock for a while. But I also know that a lot of deviants are located in Europe, so it might be fun to do some collaborating with them while I'm over there.
But we're going to focus back on the AP Art part for a minute. The way the class works is we have to submit an AP portfolio at the end of the year, showcasing our best work. It will be rated by a panel of judges, and if we get a passing score, we get college credit. It's been a great program and I've learned a ton. I love it. But it also means that my primary art style has shifted from photomanipulation to digital painting. I've become pretty decent at it (enough so to sell prints. Wink wink.). But I've discovered that my best references have focused directional lighting that causes a high dynamic range of tones. It gives more life to the skin in the paintings. So I have been shooting some resources, but they aren't ideal for photomanipulation. I've thought about trying to do some more stock soon, particularly with the new backdrops, but it's hard to find time and inspiration. :/

So, you know how in my last journal entry I talked about how the new stuff was actually old stuff and I had some real new stuff on the way? Well, it's happened again. I got too lazy to submit the pictures that I took from the last shoot (I think it had something to do with the backdrop I used... I need to reshoot, that much is certain). Anyway, I thought I submitted them but I guess that I didn't and I'll get around to doing that either today or soon. I also have some experimental shots that I took a while ago for the sake of playing with lighting, but I think you may like them so I'll put them up here, too. I also have some neat ideas for textures to shoot that I'll share, not to mention several new costumes that I need to shoot (the yellow dress, the Victorian dress [those two because the last shoot didn't work too well], a spy type shoot with a new prop, and my new Queen of the Night dress). Hopefully I'll get around to that within the next few days.
Also, I've been going through my comments, finally. They got backed up all the way to January, so I started going through them from oldest to newest, rather than vice versa, and I'm hoping that will make it a little easier. I've gotten it down to just over a hundred. To those who I'm finally getting around to +fav and running, I apologize for that. I just have so much to go through and I feel a little bashful about not getting around to it until now. I usually comment, but I probably won't start commenting on those manips again until I get to the recent ones from the past month. Sorry!

Yada yada yada. Same old, same old.
So, I've popped into my account again and I'll probably be updating and checking for the next couple of days. Then I'll probably disappear for a while again.
Just so peoples know, if its very important that I get back to you about something in a timely manner, it is better that you email me. I only check my stock account every couple of months, so if it can't wait, send an email instead of a note or comment.
Also, the priority in which I check things works like this: Emails > Notes > Comments. Therefore, if you want to make sure I see something eventually, it's a better idea to send a note than a comment.
I'm planning on shooting more stock again soon- today if my boss happens to give me the day off, and tomorrow or so on whenever I get the chance. We've recently purchased a Gunne Sax prom dress from the 70's that is very Victorian- it has the ruffles along the bust and lace up the neck, with a floral print on the fabric. It's lovely, and I know you'll love it once the stock is out. It's just a matter of shooting it. I also got a nice flowy yellow dress, but I haven't gotten the chance to have that altered yet. I'm sort of waiting for a point in time when I have a little more money to do that.
So the point is, things are going well and I plan on updating soon. The stuff I submitted last night doesn't count- it was from the Splash of Color shoot that I got too lazy to submit. XD

PS- the title is a reference to the Aria from Mozart's opera, the Magic Flute. I'm currently learning to sing it, and it's freaking epic. I love it.
